Dentures vs Implants

Many people think that the only solution to replace missing teeth is to wear a full or partial set of dentures. For a lot of people, this is a perfectly practical solution.

Dentures are a suitable solution whether you’re missing a couple or all of your teeth. Newer technology means dentures can be made with more comfortable materials and are custom created to more accurately fit your mouth. Many people can wear dentures comfortably for many years without complaint.

One of the benefits of dentures is that they typically cost less than other options. However, it is important for people to remember that over the course of their lifetime they may have to have several sets of dentures made due to gum shrinkage and other changes in their mouth.

Another benefit to dentures is that the process is much faster. Once the teeth are removed and the gums healed, dentures can be made in a matter of weeks.

One of the biggest complaints amongst denture wearers is discomfort, particularly for lower dentures. If the dentures don’t fit properly they can cause slippage and shifting that can create sore spots which can be painful.

Depending on the type of denture you need, you may also have to use an adhesive to keep it in place. While adhesives have come a long way in recent years, some people find it bothersome to use.

If you are experiencing discomfort with an ill-fitting denture, why not explore other options?  Why not consider an alternative: Dental Implants.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth and they look, feel and function just like a natural tooth, enabling you to eat, speak and smile with confidence!

An implant can be used to replace one missing tooth, or you can have entire sets of teeth replaced. Implants, inserted directly into the jawbone, provide a stable foundation for a final crown replacement.

Because an implant is surgically implanted into the jaw, the surrounding teeth and gums are not affected like they would be with a bridge or denture. Conventional dentures do not help to maintain bone in the jaw so the bone deteriorates over time causing them to be loose. Dental implants stimulate the jaw bone and help to maintain facial structures ensuring an aesthetic result over time.

One consideration about implants is that the procedure often takes multiple visits, and depending on your needs can be more costly than dentures.

If you are missing teeth and are considering your options for cosmetic dentistry, you have more choices than ever.
