Get ready!
No Smoking Day 2018 is on Wednesday 14th March. It’s a special day intended to help people who are thinking of giving up smoking.
Go smoke free for just one day!
With a one day target, you can see how it is for you. It’s a great start. And if it’s just a day, you don’t need to feel bad if the next day you smoke again. The idea is to set a realistic target.
Not everyone can give up by throwing out the packet, and saying, “I’ll never smoke again!”. Many people do better with a staged approach.
Or perhaps try for longer?
Why not set some extra targets?
- one day this week, two days next week, then three and so on
- limit the number of cigarettes,
- set specific smoking and non-smoking times
- don’t smoke in front of certain people
- only smoke in one place that’s not too easy to get to
Or get ready to rip up the packet and quit for good!
Three points to help you get though the day/ the week/ the month/ the year:
- Stay busy: keep your hands busy, be active and do things that will keep your mind off the ‘problem’
- Avoid smoking triggers: try to change your routine to avoid ‘smoking times’ and spend time with non-smokers
- Stay positive: congratulate yourself for each hour that you’re smoke free
