Acts of kindness during Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (18-22 May 2020) and the theme is ‘Kindness’

We’d like to share with you this poignant recording of “Can you hear me?” composed by Thomas Hewitt Jones. We’re particularly proud because SpaDental Practice Coordinator Lucy Dine‘s daughter is one of the choir singing.

Please take a moment to listen and appreciate their poignant message:

The Royal Holloway Choir released their new recording, with soprano Laura Wright, to raise awareness of mental health. Their aim is to encourage people to seek support, or donate to mental health charities if they can.

Laura Wright says:“I was so honoured to be invited to be part of this beautiful message. So many people are currently suffering in silence with loneliness and are showing signs of depression. The first step to healing is to open up and talk to someone about the thoughts in your head. We must look out for people around us “Can You Hear Me?” We mustn’t stop showing kindness. Kindness is key.”

As an act of kindness, the musicians gave their services without charge. They hope their message of strength and unity will spread around the world. Moreover, proceeds from sales will be  given to mental health charities around the UK. #StayStrong

Offering small acts of kindness

DPAS, one of our dental plan providers, is promoting mental health on social media all this week, with daily updates highlighting available support: a charity each day, yoga and breathing snippets, tips, blogs etc.

We encourage everyone to think about the little things we can all do, to make someone’s day brighter. If you’d like some more ideas, then check this page: Random Acts of Kindness

We’ve already heard some stories from some of our team about how they’re helping family, friends and others in their community.

If you’re able to perform a random act of kindness for a relative, a neighbour or anyone who would appreciate it, whilst staying safe, that would be fabulous. And while you’re at it, why not take a photo and tag your local SpaDental on Facebook? We’d love to see what you’re doing!

So why not make a phone call to someone you’ve not spoken to in a long time, drop off some flowers, a book or a plant? Perhaps bake a cake to give away. Anything you can do safely, or are already doing, can make a difference to someone’s day.

We can help people with acts of kindness.

Together we’ll #STAYSTRONG
