“Very happy
I can’t remember the last time I felt that relaxed in a dentist chair. Adrian was kind, gentle and kept me informed at each stage of my treatment Thank you so much.” BL

“The best dental care I have ever received
Both the Dentist and Dental Nurse were excellent at my recent visit to Plymouth Spa Dental. I simply cannot fault the level of care I received for a repair of a cracked tooth plus the follow up call the next day to check my recovery. Excellent, highly recommend.” KB

Adrian is accepting new patients for private dental care. He also accepts new referrals for endodontic treatment (root canal therapy), from dental care professionals and self-referring patients.

Dentist Adrian Cerga chats about his career so far, and his approach to dental care.

Why did you become a dentist?

I always wanted to be a doctor, and I find dentistry fascinating and really enjoy it. Now, I can’t see myself doing anything else. I love working with people and helping my patients with their oral health. It’s very rewarding to help patients who are feeling some pain, or see them enjoy their new smile as a result of my work.

Day to day, what do you enjoy most about your work?

Definitely my interactions with patients and staff. I enjoy the small chats I have with my patients, their trust and appreciation.

How do you help your patients feel comfortable?

I like to be both friendly and professional, mixing chat with explanations. So my patient knows what is going to happen next, I like to explain the process step by step and reassure them. I think it’s important to help my patient understand what the problem is, the treatments I can offer and the next steps. I support what I say with x-rays or photographs and I’m as clear as possible about the plan, the outcome and the costs.

What do you do to develop your professional skills?

The first post graduate course I did was in implantology straight after finishing university but I decided it wasn’t something I’d like to do long term. Therefore, I remained focused on general dentistry for 4-5 years. Once I moved to the UK, I began my journey into endodontics and root-canal therapy. Currently I am enrolled on a Masters degree with Chester University. I believe my patients also benefit from my interest in restoration with composites. In fact, I have a course booked for this weekend with Dr Gurvinder Bhirth, a master of fixed and removable prosthodontics.

You do microscope dentistry. What is that?

For me, this is the way I can really see what a patient needs while I’m working. For root canal work, in particular, it is very helpful. I started wearing loupes to closely analyse the site I was working on. Then I did a course where we used microscopes. It was transformative. I was fascinated by the detail of such high magnification and the increased precision of my work as a result.

What do you like about England?

I moved with my family to England because it is a great country with excellent opportunities. It also offers an excellent work/life balance. Devon is such a family-friendly place, with Cornwall just across the bridge. It’s a beautiful part of the world, full of history with so many interesting places to visit. I love the area, feel included and can’t imagine moving anywhere else.

When you have some free time, what do you like to do?

Devon is such a lovely place to spend time with my family on long walks, bike rides and swimming. We all enjoy our outside activities.  I also go to the gym and collect fountain pens.
