SpaDental is delighted to welcome implant dentist Kalina Borska to the practice. Kalina chose to focus professionally on the area of implant dentistry because of the difference she knows it can make to her patients’ lives.

As well as placing and restoring implants, Kalina is available to deliver orthodontic alignment with clear braces and facial rejuvenation treatments too.

Catching up with Kalina at the end of her first day in the Saltash practice last week, I asked her a few questions about the services she offers her patients.

Q: How was your first day at SpaDental Saltash?

A: It was lovely! Everyone was so helpful and friendly. My nurse is calm and very clever. She does the best job, so I couldn’t have asked for a better start. I left at the end of the day confident in the support of the professional staff and management of SpaDental.

Q: Why did you decide to focus on placing dental implants?

A: Dental implantology is the answer to the problem of missing teeth that dentistry had been seeking for ever! They really can be life-changing for the patient, and I enjoy being a part of that change.

The beauty of implants is that they restore missing teeth without affecting any of the remaining ones. For many patients, implants mean the end of removable dentures. Implants restore to patients the feeling they might have missed for a long time, of having their own teeth in place. Moreover, if more than a few teeth need to be replaced, implants are an excellent, secure base for removable dentures.

For me, it’s very satisfying to restore teeth. It brings back the patients’ confidence so they can once again enjoy an unrestrained smile, enjoy eating out and socialising. Put simply, dental implants make patients happier.

Q: What are the advantages of clear braces for patients?

A: Clear aligners are a series of custom-made braces that move teeth gently into position. Basically, they align your dentition without affecting your appearance during the process. In some professions it is difficult to wear visible braces, especially if they affect your speech. For adults working in any face-to-face customer service, for example, it’s very awkward to have visible braces.

Nowadays there are no age limitations. Because clear braces are discreet, anyone can feel confident about having their teeth straightened. I have been using a system made here in the UK by NimroDENTAL for over 5 years with great results. I can also provide Inman aligners. Both systems are an excellent way to have straighter teeth.

I’ve seen how clear braces can boost patients’ confidence. Even during the treatment, patients smile more freely and express themselves without feeling self-conscious. Moreover, good dental alignment helps with oral hygiene, as it’s easier to clean well-spaced dentition. So, in the long run, the treatment helps keep teeth healthy too!

Q: What would you like your patients to know about facial rejuvenation treatments?

A: In my opinion, facial rejuvenation treatment is not vanity. As we live more stressful lives and there’s more pollution around us, our skin can age just a bit faster than our spirit. If we can slow down the ageing process, I don’t see a reason why not to. Facial rejuvenation is simply the gentle enhancement of parts of the face that otherwise lose youthful elasticity.

I offer mesotherapy which brings a level of hydration to the skin which creams just cannot achieve as they don’t penetrate the basal layer. Also, I offer tiny injections of botulinum toxin (Botox is the best-known brand) which, if applied in time, can literally reverse the occurrence of some wrinkles – ones that are not too deep but are already noticeable, and lip augmentation too. These treatments work to reduce the dramatic changes to facial features which happen with age.

Q: What can you offer patients in Plymouth and Saltash?

A: My aim is always to do my best to help my patients and to give them the best possible treatment. During our first appointment, I learn what it is that my patient wants, and then we work from there. Working with the SpaDental teams, together we can achieve some lovely smiles?
