Home working away from your dentist?

30th November 2020 | Posted by: Vanessa Giraud

Many of us have changed the way we work this year, and with that the location of our place of work. If you live in a rural location, the chances are you, or some of your friends, have had family from one of the big cities staying. Or perhaps you know of a house nearby that has been for sale for ages and now has suddenly sold to a new family.

This year, for many people the familiar patterns of journeys to and from the office, of going out to work, have changed. In August, UK office workers didn’t rush back to their company provided desks. In fact, while the French, Germans, Spanish and Italians returned to their offices, nearly half of the ‘white-collar’ work-force continued to stay at home in the UK.

Companies are re-thinking the value of team members working from home, and workers are also counting the time and travel expenses saved. It’s likely that many people will continue to do at least some of their work from home.

Now as we get ready to ease out of the second lockdown and reflect of 2020, some people will realise their dentist isn’t very convenient any more.

Left your dentist behind?

If you used to nip out of your city office during lunch break to visit your dentist, you may want to ask yourself if home working has taken you too far away from your dentist.

Location, location

It’s very helpful to have a dentist close to where you spend most of your time. Taking a trip into the city just to visit a dentist, isn’t much fun, especially if you need to have work done and then travel home while the effects of your dental anaesthetic wear off.

Most highstreets in towns around the UK have a dentist that offers high quality treatments as well as basic preventive care, at prices that are likely to be more reasonable than in a city where property rates are higher.

Consider how to pay for treatment

This year, we’ve all experienced a lot of uncertainty, including financial uncertainty. Many of our patients find that becoming a plan patient helps to spread the cost of treatments over the year.

An ‘Essentials’ plan offers basic preventive care, and also a useful 10% discount on restorative care. Alternatively, if you require more treatment to achieve your optimum oral health, your dentist can estimate cost effective alternatives for you during an initial assessment.

Many private patients are happy to simply access care as and when they need it. This is the simplest way of accessing dental treatment. There’s not commitment, just care available when you need it as a pay-as-you-go private patient.
