Affordable front tooth replacement, comfortable too!

One of our lovely patients at SpaDental Tewkesbury kindly agreed we could use her dental record photographs, and write about her treatment. She wants other patients to learn more about their options and especially to let others know that having nice looking front teeth again is affordable.

Of course, coming to terms with a front tooth replacement is never going to be easy, but we’re here to help our patients to find solutions. And we’re very happy to say that our patient is delighted with the finished result.

Exploring solutions

Often people come to us with dental pain.  This patient booked a New Patient Consultation because she knew she had loose front teeth but she had been putting off going to a dentist. Many people do that. In the old days, dentists could be pretty harsh to patients. But nowadays, we don’t judge and we don’t tell you what you should have done. Our aim is to help you to feel comfortable again.

Not only was our patient uncomfortable about how her two upper front teeth looked, she also felt pain from them, and from a back tooth as well.  During her first appointment with Aryaan Khalid she asked him to solve the pain and improve the appearance of her teeth.

On examination, Aryaan found three of her teeth were very mobile. Moreover, because of advanced gum disease, he knew he could not save them and would have to remove them. He explained the situation to the patient.  She understood that extraction was the only way to alleviate her pain, improve her ability to eat, and the appearance of her teeth.

Naturally, the patient was worried she would be left without her two upper front teeth. Aryaan reassured his patient, and talked her through her options.

Options to replace missing teeth:

• Dentures: There are different types of partial, removable dentures. A denture has an individually designed base to hold the appliance in place and support any number of newly fabricated teeth. Some are made of acrylic, some of flexible plastic. The more expensive have a cobalt chrome, metal-base for stability and to hold the acrylic crowns.
• Dental implants: These days we hear a lot about dental implants, but they are not for everyone. A dentist must surgically implant a post into the jaw bone, and there is a waiting period for the site to heal ready to support a new crown. While implants are the closest we can get to replicating the form and function of natural teeth, they’re also the most expensive solution.

Decision made

Because this patient had three very wobbly teeth, two upper front teeth and one back tooth, together with the dentist she decided the acrylic denture was the better option. Moreover, it meant she could get her new teeth quickly.

The patient chose an affordable and comfortable acrylic plate denture to support her replacement teeth. The procedure is non-invasive and the dentist organised an ‘immediate’ denture. Good communication with the dental laboratory meant the patient’s denture was fitted during the same appointment as her teeth were extracted. The total cost for this patient (costs may vary from patient to patient) was just over £600.

Comfort and a happy smile

Our patient attended a follow up appointment two weeks later, and Aryaan recommended a 6-month check-up to review the denture for fit and comfort. Our patient was happy with her treatment as she  liked the appearance of her teeth and there was no more pain.
